A Tranquil Home for the Owners & Their Furry Companions

Nestled in the heart of Damansara, this apartment was transformed into a cozy retreat where both the owners and their three beloved cats can relax and enjoy the comforts of home. The goal was simple: to upgrade the existing space with a modern kampung vibe, while embracing the lush greenery outside their balcony.

Client Brief:

The owners envisioned a seamless blend of tradition and modernity, aiming to recreate the charm of a kampung house while maintaining the practicality of apartment living. With their furry friends in mind, the design had to cater to both the owners’ lifestyle and the cats’ love for lounging, climbing, and exploring.

Design Highlights:

• Maximizing Views & Space: The open-plan living area makes the most of the balcony's lush greenery, creating a peaceful connection with nature, while the cozy interior reflects the serene kampung atmosphere.

• Cat-Friendly Features: Understanding the importance of the three furry residents, we designed dedicated spaces for them to roam, including a tunnel above the TV cabinet and an "overview" bridge that lets the cats move freely around the living room. In the master bedroom, a dual-purpose rack serves as a perch for the cats to enjoy the view from the window.

• Timeless Craftsmanship: To evoke a true kampung feel, we incorporated tiang seri posts—wooden columns sourced from a reclaimed wood shop in Klang. These posts, hand-picked by the owners, add an authentic touch of heritage to the space. And for the cats, the base of the posts was wrapped in a material perfect for scratching!

• Functional Design Upgrades: The existing ceiling, which had a dated look, was given a stylish facelift with timber sandwich beading that adds warmth and elegance. We also created a convenient entryway and EDC area, providing much-needed storage for everyday items like shoes and bags.

• Custom Furnishings: The TV cabinet was crafted from veneer and solid semangkuk wood, using the traditional tanggam wood-joining system. This method not only enhances the design but also contributes to the home’s rustic yet modern appeal.

The result is a home that not only reflects the owners’ personalities and needs but also provides a haven for their feline companions to explore, relax, and enjoy. Both the owners and their three cats are delighted with the transformation, and the space now feels like a true sanctuary where everyone—two-legged and four-legged alike—can unwind and make lasting memories.
