ASCORE Safety Week: A Week Dedicated to Life-Saving Knowledge and Skills

From February 18th to 20th, 2025, ASCORE hosted its highly anticipated Safety Week, a comprehensive in-house program aimed at equipping office staff from both ASCORE and ENDO with the vital knowledge and skills needed to handle hazardous situations and emergency scenarios effectively. The initiative, led by HRDF, underscored the importance of being prepared for any emergency, whether on a construction site or in the workplace. With the right tools and knowledge, lives can be saved – and Safety Week was all about fostering this awareness.

18th February: CPR & AED Training

The week kicked off with a crucial session on life-saving techniques, focusing on CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) handling. Led by certified first aid instructor Mr. Teo Kuang Chen, participants learned how to perform CPR in emergencies, particularly in cases of choking or sudden cardiac arrest. Known as the "golden minutes," these first few minutes after an incident are critical, and the knowledge shared during this session can make the difference between life and death. Additionally, staff were trained on how to use an AED – an invaluable tool in responding to sudden cardiac arrests, providing a higher chance of survival for affected individuals

19th February: Fire Safety with Balai Bomba Petaling Jaya

The second day of Safety Week was dedicated to fire safety, a fundamental concern for any workplace, especially those with construction sites or other high-risk environments. ASCORE partnered with Balai Bomba Petaling Jaya to deliver an in-depth session on the risks of fire and how it can spread rapidly, emphasizing the importance of understanding fire dynamics. Employees learned how to properly use a fire extinguisher and how to safely evacuate individuals in the event of a fire emergency. A highlight of the day was a half-day fire drill, where employees had the chance to experience fire safety protocols firsthand. The team also had an exciting opportunity to explore the fire trucks and unique fire vehicles from Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, gaining valuable insights into the tools and equipment used by fire professionals.

20th February: Occupational Safety and Health (Amendment) Act 2022

The final day of Safety Week focused on occupational safety in the context of upcoming legal changes. With the Occupational Safety and Health (Amendment) Act 2022 (OSHA Amendment Act) coming into effect on June 1, 2024, ASCORE staff learned about the expanded scope of the OSHA, which will now apply to more workplaces in Malaysia. To reinforce these changes, teams were divided into small groups to simulate the process of handling workplace accidents. This practical session allowed participants to understand the importance of reporting incidents accurately and efficiently, a critical step in improving workplace safety standards.

A Week to Remember

Overall, ASCORE's Safety Week was a tremendous success, leaving employees with a wealth of practical knowledge that could save lives in the event of an emergency. Beyond the technical skills learned, the week fostered a greater sense of awareness about workplace safety and reinforced the importance of being prepared for any potential hazard. The valuable lessons learned are ones that can be applied both on and off the job, ensuring that everyone walks away with the tools needed to respond to emergencies with confidence and effectiveness.

This memorable event not only empowered our staff but also created a culture of safety that will continue to thrive within our company. We look forward to further initiatives that ensure the health, safety, and well-being of everyone at ASCORE and ENDO.
