During our recent trip to South Korea, we had the chance to visit the Blue Bottle Coffee shop in Myeongdong. Designed by Teo Yang, founder of the Seoul-based Teo Yang Studio, the café is a beautiful blend of tradition and modernity. Known for his philosophy of translating Korean heritage into contemporary design, Teo Yang brings a thoughtful and refined aesthetic to this space.
Blue Bottle, the California-based coffee roaster and retailer, finds a perfect cultural harmony here. The thoughtful expression incorporating the traditional architectural element jakyung while merging it seamlessly with Blue Bottle’s signature blue. The result is a space that feels both subtle and timeless.
Completed in 2022, the building is clad in custom blue-hued metal panels. These reflect the brand’s identity while creating a calming transition from Myeongdong’s lively streets into a serene, design-forward interior.
